YONGSAN GARRISON - Over 150 people, including service members and their families, looking for new opportunities attended the Army Community Service (ACS) Job Fair July 16 at Dragon Hill Lodge°Øs Naija Ballroom, Yongsan.

During the job fair, representatives from around the peninsula provided information and answered questions for potential future employees.

"We had close to 30 employers and within the first hour we had at least 100 (attendees) come through already," said Pamela Smith the information and referral manager with ACS.

The purpose of the job fair is to have employers explain the job positions to potential future employees, she said. There were some organizations that are volunteer-based such as the American Red Cross. Other agencies have pay positions.

The job positions offered ranged from on-post to off-post employment, Smith said. The fair was open to anyone who holds an active duty, dependent or retiree military identification card, or anyone has access to Yongsan Garrison.

"The main purpose (of the job fair) is to put our family members, and our military members who are separating, in touch with potential employers," said Frank Jackson, the employment readiness program manager with ACS. "For the next job fair, we°Øre looking at some potential access through social media to find more employers."

According to Jackson, getting people to meet face-to-face, not online, is the feature that is most likely to stand out from the job fair.

"Probably one of the most important things you can get from the fair is networking skills," Jackson said. "You can have all the skills for a job in the world, but if you don°Øt know where to look or who to talk to, it°'s useless."
