CAMP HUMPHREYS — The weather was a bit windy but that did not stop many from attending the 1st Annual Opening Ceremony for the USAG Humphreys Red Cross Healing Garden held April 18.

Station Manager, Ebony Bradley, explained to those in attendance, “One of the American Red Cross goals is to identify issues and concerns within the community and provide an alternative resolution. The Healing Garden manifested from concerns about mental and physical resiliency, not only amongst our service members, but for the community as a whole. This garden is our way to offer respite from the stresses of everyday life and as a perk, you can keep the food!”

After her opening remarks, Bradley then introduced special guest, Brig. Gen. Clayton M. Hutmacher, deputy commanding general support for 2nd Infantry Division, who was on hand to show support by performing the ceremonial “first dig” and plant the gardens first seeds. Soon after, everyone grabbed gloves and shovels and joined in on the fun.

Overall, the day was a success but there is still much to do. If you are interested in gardening and would like to be part of the Healing Garden project, please give USAG Humphreys Red Cross a call at 753-7172 for more information.
